I’m always looking for new movies to watch, original movies that are not based on something that has been done before. When I saw there was a movie called Death of a Unicorn I thought huh interesting!

The movie stars one my favorites, Jenna Ortega, she plays Ridley, daughter to Paul Rudd’s character, Elliot. Elliot is a lawyer working for a big time billionaire (Odell Leopold played by Richard Grant), he brings his daughter to his boss’ house in the mountains, his boss is dying and wants Elliot to take over the business. While on the drive up the mountain they end up hitting a unicorn, when they get out of the car to check on the unicorn, Ridley becomes connected and although the unicorn died, they put it in the trunk.
The longer they stay at the house the more Ridley wants to leave as she senses something is amiss. It turns out the unicorn blood has healing properties and Odell, his wife Belinda (Tea Leoni), and their son Shepard (Will Poulter) want to exploit the animal and sell parts of the unicorn for profit. Ridley’s bad feelings check out as the Unicorn was actually a baby and the parents come to the house to get their offspring back. Now everyone is running for their lives from the unicorns.

There are some pretty graphic scenes but it wasn’t too bad, I mean you’re watching a movie about killer unicorns this is not a normal horror story! I really enjoyed the lore that was built around the story, the history of unicorns and that we can learn a lot from our past.
It was so enjoyable to watch an original story, that felt new and different. It reminded me of the 80’s when studios would take chances on original stories. I would definitely watch this again and I would suggest seeing this one in theaters, I really loved the experience!
I would say this is not a movie for kids, even though there are unicorns, these are not your typical unicorns and I think it is definitely too graphic for kids.
DEATH OF A UNICORN opens in theaters on March 28th, 2025.
