Venom: The Last Dance is the final film in the Venom trilogy that stars Tom Hardy as both Eddie Brock, a former journalist, and Venom, an alien symbiote. The movie follows the duo as they are forced to go on the run from the forces hunting them. Can the concluding film of the trilogy perform a memorable last dance?
The phrase “the third time is a charm” runs rampant throughout Venom: The Last Dance as viewers ride along with Eddie and Venom. It is very reminiscent of early 2000s comic book films mixed with the buddy road trip movies from the same era. The result leads to the inner thoughts of both Eddie and Venom coming together externally to make laugh-out-loud moments. While a few fall short, Tom Hardy’s comedic timing shows he’s having fun with the role, which is infectious.
While the comedy scenes are entertaining, the emotional and action elements in the film pull away from what could make The Last Dance great. It feels like a fight for balance that never arrives. That’s not to say that the movie doesn’t evoke nostalgia of how far Eddie and Venom have come, or the excitement with the introduction of the villain Knull from the Marvel Universe mixed with other new characters. Everything is good on its own but together feels clunky.
Fans of Venom are sure to enjoy the emotional ride that Venom: The Last Dance delivers. While it lags in some scenes, the humor, action, and memories embrace what makes Venom and Eddie such a unique team. Their “final dance” showcases why it feels like he was made for this role.
There are two scenes at the end of the movie - mid-credit and post-credit.
VENOM: THE LAST DANCE opens in theaters October 25th, 2024.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5
