A horror sequel is something you expect in this day and age, but a horror sequel that's actually good and maybe better than the first one, now that's something rare. SMILE 2 does this job, and I can see how one may think it is better than the original movie.
About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.
The original SMILE brings a good number of jump scares and keeps your interest. Now with this sequel, it goes beyond that. Are you going to jump? Yes, a few times. Is it the same plot as the orginial? Yes, not much new ground is broken here. Does Naomi Scott give a stellar performance? Nonstop she does and then some.
Naomi Scott is what makes this movie even better. The performance she gives throughout the entire film not only keeps you glued to the screen, she makes you feel the emotions she's feeling, and will stay with you even after the movie ended.
The gruesomeness in the movie is gruesome, but not so much that it's over the top. It just helps add the element of scare to what you are watching. While they did bring new information about what this monster, demon thing, it's nothing too much. We need to know more and they just keep teasing us.
You must pay attention. Something this movie brings is delusion. You will need to focus as you may not know what's going on half the time, and by the time you do know, you will be twisted again into a new scene.
You're going to want to take your friends and see this one in a theater. You need that audience talk back during the movie. It just makes the movie even better. It adds the humor element to the movie and will fill the slower parts as they lead into the scares.
SMILE 2 is only in Theatres, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, and Premium Large Formats on October 18th, 2024.
Rating: 4 out of 5
