ALIEN is such a classic style of a horror sci-fi movie, and this new one is such a treat. The science lovers will be well into this film, and so will the thriller fans. As for how scary this film is, this is where the film loses a little momentum. So make sure you are ready for your space journey while you are watching this movie.
A truly terrifying cinematic experience from producer Ridley Scott and director/writer Fede Alvarez, 20th Century Studios’ ALIEN: ROMULUS opens in theaters nationwide August 16, 2024. The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
The visuals are what you are going to be here for. The scenes of space and the aspects of how real it looks on screen are going to blow you away. Some of it looks like it's real and not CGI, which it might be, and that just makes the film look so much better.
When you are watching this movie, you are going to be in disbelief. The Aliens themselves also look so much better than you think they will look like. The team behind the effects did a job that makes you think you may actually be watching this space footage of aliens, and they are coming for us all.
The lacking part of this movie was the character development. While we do get attached to the main character, Rain, played by Cailee Spaeny, there are times that we feel misplaced. We also have characters such as Andy, David Jonsson, that we want to know more about and feel for, but the film finds itself flat, and it misses the mark so we have fewer emotions for most characters in the film.
The film is also filled with scenes and stories that are too predictable. You will be calling it out as you are watching it, then it really happens. While, some of the scenes maybe callbacks to the original film, it may be just too many things that you see and know what's going to happen.
The amount of jump scares is low in this film. Of course, you don't want this movie to be all scary and filled with jump scares, so you can appreciate the thriller aspect of it. It could have used a few more jump scares to liven it up.
I am going to tell you, make sure you get that popcorn. The film does have a good number of slow scenes and setting up, so that you will need popcorn for the movie, or you may find yourself bored during certain parts.
This one is going to lead to more. The franchise does seem to have restarted with this one, and if they can bring some more action and excitement to the future ones, I will be here for it fully.
ALIEN: ROMULUS is in theaters on August 16th, 2024.
