Summer is here, and TWISTERS is calling your name. This is really the popcorn movie of the summer. You are not going to want to miss out on this one as everyone is going to be talking about it. You may just not be ready for all the intense, jaw-dropping action scenes you are going to experience. This movie will require you to buckle up, or else you may just fly away yourself.
Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City. She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (Golden Globe nominee Anthony Ramos, In the Heights) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Powell), the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better. As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler, Javi and their crews find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.
Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell have the charisma you want from this duo when they are on the screen together. They just seem so fitting together that they both can play off each other so well, that you want even more from them, but they know how to tease an audience. This is the summer of Glen, and he's just going to keep doing more movies and being a character that you can see him portraying well.
The movie has non-stop tornadoes, non-stop storms, and non-stop excitement. So much so, the beginning of the movie starts right off so exciting and so crazy, you need to recover quickly because you have a little time to take your breath, but then it starts right back up. It sets the tone of the film and lets you know, you may not be ready for all this that's about to happen.
The effects shown in TWSITERS are so amazing that you may actually think you are in the storms while they are happening. They all look real, while there are some oddities, it is not enough to take away how awesome this movie looks. You will want to see this on the big screen so you can get sucked right into all the tornadoes and action yourself.
Does this movie have some nods to the original film? It for sure does, but don't you worry, this isn't a carbon copy. It gives you the references you want to hear so you can enjoy the callbacks, but it is something new to experience. This movie will keep your eyes glued to the screen and offer you so many nail-biting moments you may just yell out at the screen.
This movie not only needs popcorn, but it requires it. Make sure you stay during the start of the credits for some extra scenes, but no need to sit through the rest.
TWISTERS is in Theaters on July 19th, 2024.
