When Ryan Reynolds does something, like DEADPOOL, he goes hard. So it's not an easy task to try to rebrand with his character now being owned by a different studio, or is it? Ryan Reynolds knows this character, and he knows his audience, so he is the only man that can not only do this character right, but give it justice for what it's about to face... the MCU. Reynolds can bring fun moments, sad moments, and all without seeing any emotion on his face. No one else can pull this character off and no one will be able to.
A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existenFal threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again and must convince a reluctant Wolverine. Shawn Levy directs DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen.
The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is exactly how you would want it with Deadpool and Wolverine. These men have been playing this character so long that they are both just extensions of said characters. They not only know how to play every version of their own character, but they know how they would also react to other characters in and out of the MCU.
Emma Corrin, who portrays Cassandra Nova, is one of the main villains in this film, and she knows how to play it. The only issue is that there are so many other things happening in this film that she gets a little out shadowed. This film is more like four films all wrapped into one. If you don't pay attention, you are going to miss something or someone. So, while Cassandra Nova is an amazing character in the film, you're going to want to see more of her that we don't get.
If you could sum up this movie in one word, it's cameos, but also fun, and fist pumping, and a few others. The takeaway, though, is to be ready for anything. There are so many cameos in this movie that you may not be ready for who you see on screen, or what character that person is playing. While I agree we may be sick and tired of the multiverse, this multiverse brings together so much, and I would consider it the fun multiverse.
Be warned, this film will cause you to throw your fist in the air, and you will start pumping it like you don't care. There will be many times you will laugh and be excited. This movie is a good bridge connecting two multiverses, and while it's not as perfect as it can be, it comes pretty close when you have a big bucket of popcorn.
So make sure you get your popcorn and keep your eyes glued. Anything can really show up at any time. Anyone can be any character at any time. Some will be quick, some will stay with us for almost half a movie. So make sure you're paying attention, or you may require a second or even third watch. In true fashion, make sure you stay until the very end, there is a mid-credit scene and one more scene at the very end.
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE is in theaters on July 26th, 2024.
Rating: 4 out of 5
