A murder mystery sounds exciting. Sounds like something I can get behind. We gotta figure out who is a murdered when it may as well be anyone. This idea sounds like it could be good, and sounds like something you want to watch, but I'm thinking you should pass.
Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer turns into a terrifying search for a murderer when a picture-perfect couple’s idyllic honeymoon is tragically cut short. Set against an epic landscape of sweeping desert vistas and the majestic Giza pyramids, this tale of unbridled passion and incapacitating jealousy features a cosmopolitan group of impeccably dressed travelers, and enough wicked twists and turns to leave audiences guessing until the final, shocking denouement.
Now I do know, that per the author's estate, they cannot make any changes to the story that is different from the book, but that doesn't mean they have to be cheap with the effects. The CGI is really bad in this movie, almost laughable at times. You can just tell it's completely fake and they didn't even try to make some stuff look real. That has nothing to do with the story in the book.
The acting is something that really lacked in this film as well. These are famous actors who have done awesome jobs before, setting Armie Hammer aside, so the fact that they brought dry performances out of this film is shocking. Now I did take in that this movie is two years old already, so maybe that's why, but they could have put a little more into their characters to bring out a better movie.
I will say, if you want to hear Kenneth Branagh say murder in that accent for two hours, then this film is meant for you. If you want an exciting murder mystery where you keep guessing who the killer is and keep getting it wrong, then stay away from this film.
'Death on the Nile' is in theaters on February 11th, 2022.
