'The Personal History of David Copperfield' is in Select Theaters on August 28th, 2020.
'The Personal History of David Copperfield' re-imagines Charles Dickens’ classic ode to grit and perseverance through the comedic lens of its award-winning filmmakers— giving the Dickensian tale new life for a cosmopolitan age with a diverse ensemble cast of stage and screen actors from across the world. Emmy® winners and Oscar® nominees Armando Iannucci (IN THE LOOP, THE DEATH OF STALIN, HBO’S Veep) and Simon Blackwell (IN THE LOOP, HBO’S Succession) lend their wry, yet heart-filled storytelling style to revisiting Dickens’ iconic hero on his quirky journey from impoverished orphan to burgeoning writer in Victorian England.
Dev Patel can become any character he wants to be, and this role is no different. He seems to be able to produce this role well, and he is able to carry the whole film on himself. He brings the whit and charm on screen, and makes you feel for his character during the film.
Luckily this movie features Hugh Laurie, who is the comic relief in the movie. This movie needed more of him, because it seemed to have a more serious undertone throughout the film. While watching you will look forward to Laurie coming on screen, since he brings the smile to your face during the entire time he is on screen. Tilda Swinton also brings her a class skills in this movie.
If this is playing in a theater near you, I recommend you head out and see this movie. It does have some heart warming moments, and will make you have that feel good feeling in the pit of your stomach. The movie is awesome for the whole family, as it keeps the tone for a good family night film.
