'The High Note' is Premiering On Demand May 29th, 2020.
Tracee Ellis Ross plays Grace Davis, a popular singer from years ago who has been singing the same songs since her first rise to fame. She wants to sing new songs but her manager, Ice Cube, Jack, is comfortable with their easy lifestyle and that they don’t need new music since they are still making a ton of money off her classic song catalog. Dakota Johnson plays Grace’s assistant, Maggie, and is an aspiring producer. One day Maggie meets David, who is a musician, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and they being to make music together. In the end their stories all intertwine.
The plot of the movie was very predictable, although there is a twist at the end that I didn’t expect. I think Tracee is a wonderful actress but I feel like they should’ve had an actual singer for this role. The songs were not great or catchy like other soundtracks and I felt bored with them.
The acting was good, the movie was ok!
