Knives Out is in theaters on November 27th, 2019.
Knives Out is a fun, twisty new murder mystery from filmmaker/director Rian Johnson. Filled with an all-
star cast, it is totally worth all the hype. When I saw the previews, I knew I was interested, but I wasn’t
completely sold on a Rian Johnson movie after The Last Jedi. However, Knives Out completely exceeded
my expectations. Like a modern, comical Murder on the Order Express, Knives Out never takes itself
TOO seriously and leaves room for entertainment and intrigue.
Knives Out tells the story of the mysterious death of the wealthy patriarch of the eccentric Thrombey
family, Harlan Thrombey. Johnson tells the story in a very unique way, where I thought I knew the twist
pretty early on, yet by the end I was totally surprised.
I don’t want to give away too many spoilers, but I will say the cast in this movie was amazing. Jamie Lee
Curtis and Michael Shannon are stellar as the son and daughter of Harlan Thrombey, with Toni Collette
as his status-obsessed daughter-in-law and Chris Evans taking on a role that is the opposite of his real
personality. He plays a character completely outside of his comfort zone as Ransom Drysdale, Harlan’s
lazy grandson who’s never worked a day in his life. And let’s not forget Daniel Craig playing his own
version of Hercule Poirot, private investigator Benoit Blanc. The cast looks like it had a lot of fun making
this movie, and the chemistry proves it. So forget what you think you know about a typical murder
mystery, and let Knives Out take you on a roller coaster adventure.
