Hustlers is in theaters on September 13th, 2019.
J.Lo. Constance Wu. Lili Reinhart. CARDI B. In a stripper movie? As soon as I saw this cast, I knew I would
be seeing this as soon as possible. To be honest, I actually really enjoy Jennifer Lopez as an actress.
Obviously, she’s a queen of the music industry, but I’ve thought she was pretty talented at acting as
well. We loved her in Selena, and I think she’s made some amazing rom coms: Maid in Manhattan, The
Wedding Planner, Monster in Law. I’m here for her acting career! And she took it to the next level with
Hustlers.
Hustlers is inspired by a New York Magazine article from Jessica Pressler (she also wrote an awesome
article about Anna Delvey – the fake German heiress socialite who scammed NYC… totally separate but
absolutely wild and I recommend reading both these articles) about strip club employees who band
together to scam men. Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez play Destiny and Ramona, respectively, the
two main strippers finding success at a high-end nightclub in New York City. When the financial
recession hits in 2008, their worlds turn upside down. Both have children and are just trying to make a
living but lose many of their clients when Wall Street fell and lose touch with each other. Looking to find
another way to even the score and make some money, Ramona reconnects with Destiny offering to
bring her into the hustle. Along with Keke Palmer and Lili Reinhart, who also play strippers, they scam
men – drugging them with a molly/ketamine mix and maxing out their credit cards out for cash. What
follows is a wild, entertaining story about family, friendship, independent women, and how far one will
go for stability and even a life of luxury.
I loved Hustlers. I thought it was fun and sexy and I wanted more! Lizzo had an amazing cameo and Cardi
B absolutely steals the show in her scenes (not surprising!) To be honest, I wish we had seen more of
Cardi! Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez are at their absolute best. The WORK and commitment they
both must have put in to learn how to do a striptease and dance is astounding and they deserve so
much credit. Without giving away any spoilers, I wish there was a bit more background about the
aftermath of their hustle. I was left with a few questions for Destiny and Ramona. Overall though, I
thought it was a very entertaining movie. I mean, Jennifer Lopez doing a full striptease on the pole… Do I
need to say more?
