Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is in theaters on August 2nd, 2019.
Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw hits theatres this weekend. This is the very first spin-off to the huge ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise. I had no expectations going into this movie. I believe I have only watched one of the Fast and Furious movies a long time ago. Having said that, I really had no interest in any of the movies. After watching this one though, I will say it was a fun and entertaining time with some moments a little over the top.
Agent Hattie (Vanessa Kirby) injects a deadly virus into herself rather than letting it fall into the hands of a genetically enhanced villain. It’s then up to Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) to come together to figure out how to get the virus out of her while also fighting against this villain who has plans that threaten the world.
This movie is a lot of fun from start to finish. Like I mentioned before, I haven’t really watched any other Fast and Furious movie, but this was quite enjoyable. From the beginning it was very action packed and well choreographed. The scenes are quick paced and thrilling while also being comedic. I enjoyed the chemistry between Dwayne and Jason, from taking jabs at each other to fighting along each other. There were also a couple fun cameos. Won’t give any away but I did enjoy the character Locke, when he was on screen.
There are cheesy one liners and of course the over-the-top, insane stunts and crazy set pieces. One in particular had me laughing because it defies the law of nature. Hobbs and his gigantic arms managed to hold an escaping helicopter using nothing more than a chain. The audience obviously did not believe it so?? Why???? Also, the film goes into sci-fi territory, which seems out of place considering how grounded the franchise is. The villain is basically immortal, being bulletproof and having super strength. It’s expected in a superhero movie, but this is not one.
Im sure if you liked all the Fast and Furious movies, you’re going to like this one! So if you’re looking to see Johnson and Statham kick butt in style than this movie is the way to go!
Don’t forget to stay until after all the credits are finished. There are three post credit scenes to stay for!
Rating: 3 out of 5
