Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is in theaters on August 2nd, 2019.
The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham star in the first spin-off of the Fast and the Furious franchise. Hobbs and Shaw never got along and are somewhat “frenemies”. They have to team up to save Shaw’s sister, Hattie Shaw, played by Vanessa Kirby, from a killer virus and an unstoppable assassin, Brixton Lore, played by Idris Elba. They go into both Hobbs and Shaws’ background and even go to Samoa!
Ok so maybe I’m not the target audience here but I do like the Franchise and I loved Fate of The Furious. This just felt like a money grab. There were so many discrepancies, for example: The virus was going to take 30 minutes to be removed from Hattie, it was early morning, before dawn, then ALL day and finally night time, when the virus was removed, this was easily at 16 hour timeframe they tried to say was only 30 minutes.
It was over two hours and could’ve easily been much shorter. Bits and pieces of a background story would’ve been fine but they really spent way too much time trying to dig deep into the characters and honestly - this is an action film...no one is here for that. The jokes were awful, so forced and tried way too hard to be funny.
They also have a cameo from Ryan Reynolds which I think was actually a bad idea. Everyone loves Ryan and it just made me think how much of a better movie it would’ve been with him in it. Also Kevin Hart makes a hilarious cameo but even those two aren’t enough to make this movie bearable.
With all that being said I actually would like to see more of these movies. I love action flicks you can just enjoy...unfortunately they missed the mark on this one. So if you like the franchise you may or may not like this one. It just wasn’t for me.
