Jessica Rothe leads the returning cast of Happy Death Day 2U, the follow-up to Blumhouse's (Split, Get Out, The Purge series) surprise 2017 smash hit of riveting, repeating twists and comic turns. This time, our hero Tree (Rothe) discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.
Happy Death Day 2U is in theaters on February 13th, 2019.
When moviegoers were left with no explanation for the events in the first movie, Happy Death Day, you
can imagine the excitement when a sequel was announced. After watching the trailer, I immediately
rolled my eyes and was extremely disinterested. “AGAIN?” was my initial reaction to the trailer , yet I
drug myself to the theater anyways and I am happy that I did. This movie had more laughs, more tears,
and overall more fun than the first.
We got to see the main character Tree go through some rather creative and gruesome deaths, but we also saw her make the choice between two hard life changing
decisions. The chosen direction of why the events in the first movie and the events in this movie were
happening surprised me. I would have guessed your typical “the Universe wants you to change" or “a
Madame psychic put a spell on you". Having some prior experience in the explanation they choose, I was
pleased with how they approached it and made a difficult subject sound easy.
If you’re thinking about
the idea of having to watch a second movie that looks too similar to the first one, then you will be
pleasantly surprised by this movie. It is different in almost every way and will definitely leave you with
the satisfaction of this story coming to an end.
